CDRC to Host Co-Founder of Transformative Mediation
Montour Falls, New York – Dr. Joseph Folger, co-author of The Promise of Mediation: the Transformative Approach to Conflict, will be presenting an all day workshop on Friday, March 26th. A professor of adult and organizational development at Temple University, Dr. Folger is the co-founder of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and the transformative model of mediation.
This workshop is an intensive master-class especially designed to enhance mediator skills. One approach that distinguishes the transformative model is its tendency to follow the parties’ conversation even when it leads to emotionally charged and heated exchanges. At CDRC we want our mediators to be as confident, as comfortable, and as competent as possible in taking advantage of those opportunities. So Dr. Folger’s workshop will focus on enhancing mediator skill sets in these areas:
• Purpose Driving Practice: Core Values
• Sustaining Purpose: Value Challenges
• Sustaining Practice: Cognitive Challenges
• Sustaining Practice: Communication Challenges
Focus will include serious mediation sticking points, such as dealing with power imbalance, the timing of interventions, asking non-directive questions, and matching emotional expressiveness.
This rare opportunity to learn directly from a pioneer in the transformative mediation field has been made possible by a grant from the NYS Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution and Court Improvement Programs.
This master class will be held at the Moose Lodge at 2096 Route 14 in Montour Falls. Lunch will be on your own and we’ll provide ample time and information about dining options to those who register. Directions and other important details will also be sent to registrants.
For participants from neighboring dispute resolution centers, CDRC is able to offer this program for $50 per attendee to be paid in advance and submitted with a completed registration form as seen below. At this time, the workshop is full.
